Your Brain Needs Exercise, Too

Why Villains Exist?

Image
The other day I was playing with my 4 years old nephew. Naturally, he was the mighty hero with his plastic sword, and of course, I was cast as the villain. After half an hour of nonstop battling, I finally surrendered. His “power” was too much for me. I switched to the good side, thinking the war was over. Five minutes later, he marched back, sword raised, declaring another battle. Turns out, without a villain, a hero has nothing to do. Moral of the story: villains exist to keep heroes entertained.

When Music Becomes a Time Machine

I went to a concert last week by a band I used to listen to when I was very young. The music was wonderful, the performance was excellent, and the whole atmosphere felt perfect.  While I was there, the songs carried me back to my youth, bringing back memories of everything from that time. It was such a sweet experience. We may not have a real 'time machine' yet, but I believe that old songs are the closest thing to one. They transport you back to the moments when you first heard them.
